I bought this shoe recently knowing that the Aravon last from the New Balance company has fit me well before and that they tend to be attractive and long lasting shoes. I wouldn’t pay this full price for any shoe, but on deep discount they’re a good deal. A well-made if slightly unusual looking shoe on the outside, they’re a very supportive, walking shoe with ‘running shoe’ technology on the inside. I’d been wearing a thick-soled tie flat walking Dunham, but needed something a bit dressier that I could get away with wearing with a nice black dress. The higher heel (it seems close to 2″) on this shoe accomplished that. It was true to size or perhaps a tiny bit large, so that the first time I put it on I was able to wear it to work for a full day, with no breaking in period. The elastic across the top was comfortable, although it likely wouldn’t work well for people with a high vamp. I proceeded to wear it several times in a row with no difficulties, and received many compliments on its attractiveness. My doctor and physical therapist examined it and were very happy with it. I expect to get quite a bit of use from it, based on my experience with previous Aravon walking shoes that I still have. Anyone with problem feet or joint difficulties that can’t wear shoes without support might find these useful. There’s a removable insert so that a lift can be inserted beneath it or it can be removed and a personal orthotic substituted.
I was sold this shoe years ago for a trip to New York City. I keep buying it because of the cushioned thick sole and the snugness of the fit. I am a narrow, but with a sock and an extra inexpensive cushion pad, I get by so well. It is my airport shoe (slips on and off with ease), my trip shoe for walking, and when my feet hurt at home… it is my go to shoe for comfort. Wish it came in more colors. I must wear pants with it because it is bulky. It is so light that I do not get worn out carrying it around on my terrible feet all day. I have had major foot surgery with 3 metal pins in my toes for the injury, and this is the only shoe that works anymore. Please do not discontinue. I own 3 pairs!
Aravon shoes have always fit well (true to size), and this pair is no exception. In addition to a comfortable fit, the shoes look great and are perfect for wearing to my job as a fifth grade teacher.
PROS: Stays on my narrow feet without slipping. Antique metalic color goes great with gray, olive or black slacks. Aravon is a New Balance company so there’s quality workmanship in their shoes.CONS: I wear an 8 12 in Aravon sandals but these 8 1/2 loafers have such a shallow toe box that my big toes kept hitting the top of the shoe. (This seems to be a recent trend with many companies…What gives?) Anyway, the problem was solved my cutting away the toe area of the insoles to give me a little more room.
I have low back aches and sore feet. My feet are wider as I’ve gotten older.I ordered these shoes in wide. My lower back and feet don’t hurt when I wear theseShoes. I wish they came in red, navy and beige because I would order more colors.
